…The fact that the artist was born along the frontier between Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay, has deeply marked Gustavo´s feeling and perception. The open borders of his home town and the close presence of another people were his seminal experiences which he has transformed into artistic inquiries. His works, especially his mature pieces, do not belong to any specific or identifiable place, culture or time. Living abroad has not compelled him to discard his previous experiences, and with the memories he retains, even when subliminal, the artist travels around the world taking possession of signs, processes and a variety of materials in order to submit them to his own logical framework.
